WhatsApp Templates

The WhatsApp Templates page lists all of your message templates and their current approval status. Templates are required for sending outbound messages to contacts outside the 24-hour customer service window.

Template approval statuses

Every template goes through Meta’s review process. You will see one of these statuses:

  • Approved — the template has passed Meta’s review and is ready to use in broadcasts and automated messages.
  • Pending — the template has been submitted and is awaiting Meta’s review. This typically takes a few minutes but can take longer.
  • Rejected — Meta has declined the template. Review the rejection reason, revise the content, and resubmit.

Template categories

Templates are organized by category, which determines how Meta bills conversations:

  • Marketing — promotional content, product announcements, and offers.
  • Utility — transactional messages like order confirmations, shipping updates, and account notifications.
  • Authentication — one-time passcodes and verification messages.

Managing templates

From this page you can:

  • Filter by status — quickly find all approved, pending, or rejected templates.
  • Edit a template — modify the content of a template and resubmit it for approval.
  • Delete a template — remove templates you no longer need.
  • View template details — see the full template content, variables, and buttons.
